Town has its uses. It's where the walking street market happens, where you can wander between food stalls without a plan, where everything is close enough to reach on foot. It's also loud in the specific way that small tourist towns get loud — music from three directions, motorbikes idling, thin walls between you and whoever's still awake at midnight.

The valley asks something different of you, and gives something different back. Space, first — room to spread out that a guesthouse on the main strip can't offer. Quiet, second — the kind that isn't absence of sound so much as the presence of better sounds, water and birds and wind through the trees. And still, somehow, the work has to get done.
